Sam is a professional writer and technology consultant who lives and works in North Hertfordshire. He is best known for his focus on Formula 1 motor racing and the World Endurance Championship, and is passionate about science, technology and engineering. He joined the Liberal Democrats following the EU Referendum in June 2016, along with tens of thousands of others wanting to fight for the values the party represents. He is also a member of the Association of Liberal Democrat Engineers & Scientists (ALDES). Since getting involved in the local party, Sam has been a whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm, advocating effectively for positive change, both in Hitchin and beyond.

In 2018, he was elected as a District Councillor in Hitchin. And this year he was part of the team that successfully took the Liberal Democrats into coalition with Labour at NHDC, ending 20 years of Conservative control.

About the Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats want to change Britain's future. We are the only party fighting to keep Britain open, tolerant and united.

In 2010 we joined the government, putting the country first at a time of crisis in order to bring much-needed stability after the General Election produced a hung Parliament. By doing so, we not only helped rescue the economy, but were able to create opportunity for people by cutting taxes, legalising same-sex marriage, improving mental health funding, increasing renewable energy usage, and targeting extra money at the poorest school pupils.

But we were in government with a party that doesn't share our values at a time when there was very little money to go around, so in order to do all that we had to make compromises - some of which made us pretty unpopular. In the 2015 General Election we got a kicking for it.

Since 2015 though, people have seen what the Conservatives are like without us. The first Conservative-only government quickly showed its true colours: reckless, divisive and uncaring: targeting the working poor, the BBC and junior doctors. And worst of all, through Brexit, they have allowed all the good work we did to rescue the economy to be undone.

That's why the Liberal Democrats are needed more than ever. With the Labour Party distracted by internal battles, we have become the real voice of opposition to the Conservative Brexit Government.
